This performance celebrates the 101st anniversary of Pulitzer Prize-winning author Eudora Welty's birth.
KATE CAMPBELL is not only one of the premier country/folk/gospel songwriters, she's also an eloquent storyteller. With over 11 CDs to her credit, she's worked with some of the biggest names in the business. Her music's been featured on NPR's Morning Edition and All Things Considered, and on Mountain Stage. Originally from Sledge, Mississippi and the daughter of aBaptist preacher, Kate's formative years were forged by the Civil Rights movement of the 60's and those indelible experiences continue to inform her music.
Listen:
CAROLINE HERRING's music has been hailed for combining traditional sounds with striking, original observations into modern life and love. The Austin Chronicle proclaimed her album 'Lantana' to be "the best modern Southern Gothic album since Lucinda Williams' "Sweet Old World." On 'Golden Apples of the Sun,' her latest release on Signature Sounds, Herring stakes out new terrain, exchanging the country-influenced sound of her previous albums for a darker, hauntingly personal sound inspired by the iconic female folk singers and songwriters of the 1960s and 70s. In May of 2010, Herring performed at the fabulous Fox Theater, as one of the main acts, on Garrison Keillor's infamous Prarie Home Companion.
Listen:

LA's CLAIRE HOLLEY is a southern songwriter with an expressive, gentile voice. This Mississippi native and nationally touring artist has been consistently praised in magazines such as Paste, Performing Songwriter and Dirty Linen. One of her songs was recently featured in an episode of ABC's Men In Trees, and she recently wrote original music for the play See Rock City - music which won awards from the magazine LA Weekly. Her most recent CD was a collaboration with Attic favorite Caroline Herring. Her music is a true reflection of acoustic folk.
